DSG gearbox tuning
DSG gearboxes have their own torque limits, separate from the engine ECU. After Stage 1, we calibrate them for the new torque, so they shift firmly and do not cut power. We work on the DQ200, DQ250, DQ381 and DQ500, and on the DQ400e in hybrids only the shifts.
- No torque limitersFull torque in every gear
- Clutch pressureAdapted to the new torque and to the actual wear of the gearbox
- Improved shift timesFirmer in S, smoother in D
- Shift mapsIn S it holds the revs, no premature upshifts
- Launch controlAdjustable launch rpm, on wet-clutch gearboxes
- True manual modeNo automatic upshift at the rev limit
- Kickdown and creepAdjusted to how you drive
- Thermal protectionAdjusted by calculation, not disabled
What to watch for on a Skoda
What every owner should know about their engine and gearbox, before and after tuning. We check these during diagnostics and tell you openly what we found, even if it has nothing to do with the remap.
1.2 and 1.4 TSI: the timing chain
A short chain rattle on a cold start can mean the chain or the tensioner is worn. It is worth checking before any increase in torque.
1.5 TSI: hesitation with a cold engine
Jerking or hesitation under acceleration in the first minutes of driving was corrected by the manufacturer through software updates. We check whether the car has them before calibration.
2.0 TDI: the EGR and the particulate filter
On short trips, the EGR clogs up and the particulate filter does not get the chance to regenerate. We check both during diagnostics, because a choked engine cannot show what it can do, not even on the dyno.
2.0 TDI PD: the cylinder head
If the car is using coolant with no visible leaks, that is the first sign the cylinder head has a problem. On an engine like this we do not raise torque until it has been checked.
New generation 2.0 TSI: the coolant
The water pump and thermostat can develop small leaks, which first show up as a falling level in the expansion tank. An engine that runs hot does not handle more power well.

Skoda chiptuning in short
Can the DSG gearbox on a Skoda handle Stage 1?
It depends on the gearbox. The DQ250, DQ381 and DQ500, with wet clutches, handle Stage 1 without problems. The DQ200, with dry clutches, has a torque limit of about 250 Nm, so we work conservatively on it. Gearbox tuning is not a requirement for Stage 1, it is an upgrade: the gearbox no longer cuts torque, it shifts more firmly, and the clutch pressure is adapted to the new torque. It costs from 1,499 RON, and with the COMBO Stage 1 ECU + TCU package you get 499 RON off the final price.
What extras do I get with Stage 1 or Stage 2 on a Skoda?
On request and free of charge, we update the engine and gearbox software to the latest manufacturer versions, and we can raise the speed limiter.
Can I go back to the original software on a Skoda?
Yes. The original software of your Skoda stays in our archive with no time limit. Going back through the diagnostic port is free; when the ECU has to be removed or written on the bench or in boot mode, the labour is charged.
How long does chiptuning a Skoda take?
1.5-2 hours on average, including diagnostics and the dyno measurement before and after. When the ECU has to be read on the bench or unlocked, it can take longer; we tell you when you make the booking.
What happens to the Skoda warranty?
If the car is still under warranty, the manufacturer's warranty may be affected for the engine and transmission if the dealer detects the modification. We discuss the risks and options beforehand, and the original software stays saved, so you can return to stock at any time. Our calibration comes with 24 months of technical support. Details on the frequently asked questions page.
Which Skoda engines do you work on?
Most diesel and petrol engines, from the 1.6 and 2.0 TDI to the 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 TSI, including the Octavia RS. The exact figures for your engine are in the configurator on this page.
